DAB stands for "Digital Audio Broadcasting".
On a FM broadcast each station need its own frequency.
With DAB you can send multiple channels on each frequency block.
On frequency block can handle 6 channels, stations.

It is very easy to create new channels, for example for sport events etc.

The sound quality is better. The DAB broadcasts can also send text, graphics or pictures.

The BIG setback with DAB is that there is very few (in Sweden) channels to listen on.
The DAB receivers are a little bit to expensive.

If people do not buy receivers, the radio stations is not interested in investing in DAB equipment.
If there is no radio stations to listen on, then people do not want to buy receivers.

Is there more radios then the "Pioneer M7400RDS" that has the RDS implemented in the main CPU?
This is good to know when hunting for other objects to use.

M7400 is the number on the Pioneer radio I hoped to be reused.
I havn't found any circuit in this that could be the RDS IC.

I guess that I have to look after another radio to use that has one of the 2 IC's that you posted.

My problem is that I can't find the TDA7330 in my radio.
Is there any known relabeld IC's in pioneer radios that could be the RDS decoder?

How do you take the RDS information from the radio?
I have no problems with writing PC software.

If I could get the RDS information on a serial interface, then most of my problems is solved.
How should I proceed to make a "RDS to Serial" interface?
Where do you interface the radio?

I need a PC-decoder to read RDS information.
I hoped that it would be possible to do without expensive "kits".

The project is to listen on Traffic information and process these with email etc.

Has anyone here experemented with taking RDS info?
I would like to use my none IP_bus radio, M7400RDS, but I have no service manual.
It's a little bit hard to find any data signal to interface on but I guess it is there somewhere.

If a newer RDS radio is easier to interface that could be a solution to.

I have an old Pioneer unit with IP bus and I it's now time for installation.
I do not have any manuals for the stereo.

Does anyone have the layout on the main connector to the radio. I guess it's somekind of standard with
newer stereos?
It is a 14 pin connector, 7 pins - 2 rows, and I need the layout for the different pins to be able to install the unit.

After some weeks on ice I finaly got my hands into the IP Bus project again.

I havn't got my dub unit to work correctly with my stereo. I had to "hardwire" it in.
The only cable I had was an extension cord and that gave me on wrong connector.
My first attempt resultet in some kind of communication but no audio??

I saw that I hooked it up on the IP Bus Input on the DAB unit. I guess this is the wrong one to use?
Whats the differense? Apperently the radio can communication with the unit. I can shift to
the dab in the meny and I see that it calibrates the channels.

I will try to rewire the hole thing on the other connector. Hope this helps.

The next thing I would like to do is to connect my computer to the DAB unit input and send computer audio (mp3 etc) to the radio. is this possible?

I have got hold on a Pioneer DAB unit but I don't have any control head to it.
After some google on the net I finaly found this place. The "only" (?) one that have
made some progress on the communication?

I have som questions.
First of all.. Does anyone know how to communicate with a DAB unit?

If I understand the adapter that is made it's only for transmitting?
Looking at the schematic a guess that the Pioneer IP-BUS is CAN based?
Is it 250 MBit CAN?
I'm using CAN at work and have a PIC controller that can transmitt CAN.
Is it possible to find what commands I need to send to get my DAB unit working?
